Off the Road Again

Daniel and Olga here. We are taking a year off - sort of. It takes some time to assimilate the experiences of journeys into new lands, and then with new perspectives begin to sketch the 'next trip'. In 2015-16, we toured the United States starting in Florida, North Carolina to Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas, Colorado, Wyoming and Utah, then 5 months in Yellowstone Natl Park, then on to Holland, a few weeks in Turkey and then 4 1/2 months in India. This segment attempts to scratch the surface of our India travels. We arrived in Hampi, in the state of Karnataka, in late February 2016. I suggest Hampi as a best early destination on one's first India adventure. Why. It is not easy to give a straight answer here. As is most travel in India - not without a few glitches - getting to Hampi is itself an adventure. Arriving in New Delhi in November, the temperatures are a little more bearable, but the air pollution can be chewable! We typically opt for smaller tow

An Earlier Time

danielandcompany Brandywine Raceway circa 1971 I remember that at an earlier age I was very concerned with how I would spend my Friday nights. Youth came and went, along with the wild antics and adventures - desperate to have some fun!  I'm glad I survived and can now laugh about those years. My dad and I used to watch the Friday Night Fights on TV. This was back in the sixties. One thing led to another, and though it's a long and eliptic story, those hours spent with my dad led to my ultimately meeting The Champ - Muhammad Ali - and getting to shake his hand. We were not rich, but what do kids know of these things. I mowed lawns and delivered newspapers and got a job at the supermarket at sixteen. I went to a small high school and was able to play sports - basketball, cross-country, golf and baseball. By the time college came along, sports gave way to my love of horses and I took to grooming and part-time training of standardbred horses (trotters). B

It's Snowing in New England!

It's Snowing in New England! North Florida is also expecting cooler days, but it was still 85 today.  We've seen cool weather before, especially on our trip 'Up North' last year. April 26th, 2008 We were all set to work with Standardbred horses in Kentucky, arriving at The Red Mile in Lexington, Kentucky toward the end of April. By our second day of work, Olga was wearing her thermal ski suit & a bright red Beanie! Daytime temps finally warmed up in mid-May, so we went to the annual High Hope Steeplechase and the local attached craft faire held at the Kentucky Horse Park. June 21st, 2008 We headed further north to Ontario, Canada on the first day of summer in late June. It rained every inch of the trip, and for the first 3-4 days of our Canada adventure. We spent eight weeks in Canada - great fun exploring the local flavour, training horses and picking up trinkets - Canadian Mapleleaf Logo Baseballs  and old  Coins . Back on the U.S. side of the F

It's Been a While...

It's been a while...  since we've been here - nice to be back! Since we last reported in we've been to the English countryside, visited friends and family in the western United States, raced horses in upstate New York and Ontario, Canada, and then we made another trip to India. This time we went to New Delhi, Punjab and Kashmir, in north India. On the way back we stopped in Milan, Italy; north Italy will be another trip. We continue to be home-based in Florida - sort of reverse snowbirds. Hot and sticky yes, but lots of light. Meanwhile, Olga will be be out on the kayak while I sketch details of our next trek...maybe Darjeeling. Pleasant Journeys!
